Casein, along with several other animal proteins, has been correlated with an increase in development of some autoimmune diseases. Studies have been conducted and are easily available online or in books. "The China Study" is probably one of the most comprehensive studies on nutrition, and what foods could be hurting more than they're helping.
There is also evidence contradicting these claims, and increased lean protein in the diet, even from animals, has repeatedly been proven to be beneficial in many ways. Chances are there are other things in your diet that are killing you faster than animal protein, as long as saturated fat is minimized.
