Yes it is safe, in fact I would recommend it; I manage a pool and spa store in Richmond, Va and own a pool myself. We never turn the pump off in season except for routine maintenance.

Keeping the pump on helps keep the pool properly sanitized, and prevents the growth of algae and water molds. It is to my knowledge, not harmful to the pump, as most of our customers do the same, and we don't have many failures. Manufacturers build the pumps for this kind of use, they are warn out faster by starting and stopping than by continuous operation.

You do not need to run your pool pump for 24 hours a day. From March through November (if you live in the South) run pump for 10 hours. From November through March 2-4 hours is all you need.

Pool pump can run 24 hours a day with no problem, as long as you are willing to pay the higher electric bill.

Yes, you can run your pump 24 hours a day. Pool pumps fall into the category, "if it rests, it rusts".

Does a pool in Phoenix AZ need less pool pump time in the winter?

Less time for running a pool pump for a 30000 gallon should run one hour for every ten degrees. IE. 50 degrees F is equal to 5 hrs per day.

On a 27' round above ground pool how often should you run the pump in the filter position?

Always run the pump in filter, for atleast 4 to 5 hrs a day , never run the pump in anything else but filter , only time you change filter setting is when you back wash you filter, also when you ope your pool and shock it for the 1st time run the filter over night then back wash next day

What is the shortest amount of time to run pool filter per day?

A good rule of thumb is one hour for each 10 degrees water temp. IE: 60* six hrs. You can cut back in cold temps and when pool is not in use. Answ:: Another rule of thumb, practiced by me, is that you run the pump for as long as it takes to maintain water clarity - meaning that you can see and just about read what is on a quarter at the bottom of the pool at the main drain. Every pool will have slightly different requirements. You have to turn the body of water over - meaning filtering the water - at least one to 1.5 times per day or filter cycle. So, if it takes 8 hrs to turn the water over and to maintain water clarity then that is what it takes for your pool - not necessarily your neighbor's pool. At a pool temp of 60 degrees there should be a lesser demand for filtration than that of a pool with a temp of 75 or 80 degrees. As a minimum, possibly with a temp of 60, your water turn over should be about 4 to 6 hrs. If, say at 80 degrees, your pump is running 8 to 10 hrs. and your water is not so clear then boost the run time on the pump in one hour increments until you achieve clarity. You may, in fact, have to boost the run time to 18 hrs in order to achieve your goal. Again, every pool will have slightly different parameters as to total run time in the pump and filter. k

I have shocked backwashed and rinse yet the pool water is so cloudy I am unable to see the bottom of the pool What should I do?

This happened to me. There was actually more dirt going into the pool when the pump was running. The problem: There were small tears in the filters and they had to be replaced. No problem since. By the nature of your question it sounds like you have a sand filter not a D E filter. Extend the run time on the pump so that the filter can do it's job 24/7. Maintain high chlorine residual, adjust pH. Once the pool has cleared greatly you then can cut back on the run time - to say 8 to 12 hrs. per day which wold be a normal run time to maintain quality water. I'll bet that you are only running the pump 2 to 3 hrs. per day thus the lack of the ability for the filter to do it's job.

When is the best time to set a timer on a salt water pool systems pump night or day?

The preferable time for me would circulate before, during and after use. Filter the body of water a minimum of once per day - - and filter up to about 2 hrs after use. K

How long should a 1 and a half HP pump run for a 15000 gallon pool?

If the pump is a modern pump with 2 inch plumbing then 3-5 hours will filter the entire pool volume. To get an exact calc. you need to know the feet of head in the plumbing and compare it to a manufacturers pump curve chart but the above answer will probably be correct.

If you have a new salt generator and you want to run the filter only 8 hours a day should the generator and the heater be put on timers to match the time set for the filter?

The pump needs a time clock. Nothing works unless the pump is running. The pump needs to run approx. 8 to 15 or 18 hrs. depending on pump GPM and amount of water and bather load. The last I heard was that you could not put a time clock on a filter it has no electrical hook-ups - - you do know that the filter is the large tank next to the pool circulation pump.... k
