first of all, there is no ahmadi or sunni or anything else second, no just because Muslims may have once controlled a country, that doesn't make it Muslim forever.

With humility and respect to the responder but you are only partially correct.

What constitutes a state as Islamic or non Ismaic is decided by a few factors. Certainly Muslims do not claim just any land once dominated by the Islamic dynasty. For example Spain was dominated by Islam for 800 years!! Today Spain is predominently Catholic due to the historic Spanish Inquisition.

So then what makes a country Islamic? Is it based on population. Well we can look at the nation state of Turkey and clearly see after the Atta Turk reforms that Turkey is clearly secular although predominently Muslim in demographic.

Ultimately, the decision as to consider a state Islamic is based on its socio-political climate. In Islam there is something called the Sharia. The Sharia is Islamic Law derived from the Quran/Koran supported by the authenticated Hadith (stories told of the Prophet or direct decisions made in his lifetime regarding similar situations). A state whom supports and practices the Sharia in any way is then considered an Islamic state. An example of this could be Egypt. Egypt follows the French legal style while incorporating the Sharia partially.

To the responder of course there is such a thing as Sunni. Sunni means the follower of the Sunnah. Sunnah means the way of the Prophet(PBUH). So whereas the Bible shows us the lifestyle of Jesus (Aleyhee salam: Peace unto him); the Hadith depicts the Sunnah and the final prophets character and actions.

It was during the Islamic state where there became a division into Sunni and Shia. This was not a theological debate but a political one. While Sunnis believed in the Shura the elderly democratic vote of a religious leader the Shia claimed that it should be tied to the blood line. Ali one of the four Caliphates (Religious Authorities) was the Prophets cousin and son in law and this is whom the Shia claimed had the right of rule. Sunnis would absolutely be opposed since the sentiment is based on the fear that future individuals could claim divinity or rule based simply on birth.

Sufis (traced to Hindu ideology), Ahmmadiys, Alawaties, Wahabbis (based on Mohammed Abd Wahabs reforms), Druze (based on Abd Rahamn king of Egypt in 1000's) are all modern corruptions or reforms whichever, as perceived by some Muslims to the faith. In Islam there is no reformation of perfection since it is Gods decree and God is perfection. Many of these sects find origins in Christianity, Zorastricism, Hinduism ad Buddhism since many whom converted in the past assimilated there beliefs with their newly found religion.

Keep in mind there are those that practice what they will and call it Islam to corrupt the image of the faith. An example of this phenomenon could be the gypsy population found in the streets of Paris whom prostitute, beg and steal while wearing head scarves to look like or imitate Muslim women!

Another major example is that of the "new" fake Koran that is being circulated in the Middle East an attempt to sway those whom arent knowledgeable in their own faith in order to teach them corrupted non Islamic text.

Further still are those whom use Propaganda and try to separate Muslims using linguistic labels. For example Wahabbis consider themselves Sunnis despite whether they truly are or not and see their label as an intentional division between them and their brothers by outside forces.

**Hope this helps. Happy researching. Al SalamAlaykoum: Peace be unto you!!**
