A 98 in good shape is only worth about $3,000. I have rebuilt heads on other cars, which is what you should do if you blow a head gasket. It is not an easy fix, especially on the sideways transverse 3.5 and 3.8L in the Intrigues. Switching the gasket is often the least of the problems. The head can warp, so it should be at least cleaned and checked for flatness before reinstalling. It may need to be machined, which will cost a little more. Also, while the head is off, you should inspectand replace the valve stem seals, and re-seat the valves. $1500 for both heads is not out of line, and your car with the blown gasket is now probably worth about $500only to mechanics. If the car doesn't have over 150Kmiles, it is probably worth doing.
To change the water pump simply remove the bolts from the waterpump, pull it off and replace with new. The power steering pump will need to be loosened and moved aside to remove one bolt. Clean old gasket from engine block and replace with new gasket and replace with new waterpump.
remove old thermostat and replace with new thermostat and gasket
To replace the head gasket on a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass 3.4L, everything on the top of the motor needs to be removed. The battery should be unhooked first, then the valve covers, then the head itself. Replace the new gasket after cleaning the old gunk off from the first gasket. It is a good idea to take a picture before, during, and after, to make sure everything is hooked up like it should be. One note, the valve cover gasket will also have to be replaced after removal.
I just paid 1688.95 to have my 1998 intrigues head gasket repaired. According to the shop it normally cost between 1500.00 and 1900.00 depending on the severity of the damaged when they take it apart and take a look.
What size engine? 3.1 or 3100? yes there is a difference. j1taylor@twcny.rr.com
A transmission fluid leak means that the plug may need to be replace, or the seal or gasket may need to be replace. As it could be caused by a work seal, or gasket, or a loose plug.
I have a 2002 Olds Silhouette and had to replace the head gasket set 2 years ago. It raun around $1,700.00
The gasket on an Oldsmobile Bravada is changed by removing the retaining bolts, taking off the cover, and peeling the gasket off. The surface is then cleaned and a new gasket put in place.
It cost us about $700 cnd. That was a shop that charged about $75/hr.
The cost to replace the head gasket of a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero costs between $20 to $190. This depends on where the part is bought, the brand of the park and any costs concerning labor or shipping.
I'd say it is, if you can find a reasonably priced mechanic or do it yourself. A head kit isn't all that much, it is labor to pull the head and replace the gaskets, clean the head, etc. I suggest doing both heads while you are at it. An '01 should be worth at least $4K in decent shape.
Valve cover gasket may be leaking oil and dripping down into the spark plug wells. if gasket looks okay, try tightening the bolts on the valve cover, otherwise, replace the gasket. Gasket from the dealer will come with 3 rings and the camshaft housing cover gasket.cost around 50.00 . Because the front plug wells are right next to the oil fill port and if your not carefull when you add oil than it spills and runs down under the coil pack and into the plug wells
