A cult is a cult rather than a religion because: -It is based on crap someone made up knowing it was crap, rather than personal belief. -They scam people -They can be dangerous to your physical, social, spiritual and mental health. -It has no origins apart from a concept someone came up with one day. -Cults spread by doorknocking, religion spreads by example (you could argue it is spread by force but as if people would believe something simply because they are threatenned they have to.) Religions: Christianity, Judaism,Islam,Hinduism etc. Cults: Jehovahs Witnesses, Scientologists, Emoism etc. Philosophies: Budhism, Confucianism, etc.

Religion and cults are distinct concepts. Religion is a system of beliefs and practices shared by a community, often with widespread acceptance and legitimacy. A cult typically refers to a more extreme or authoritarian group with manipulative or controlling practices.

∙ 12y agoA relgion is considered a cult no matter what it does when it's just starting. It will continue to be a cult if it doesn't allow members to leave, causes mental changes, refuses to allow members to get mental help, and otherwise takes their money. If it is actually an attempt at a new religion it will be considered a new religion after awhile and if it gains enough followers and is around for long enough it will be a full relegion.
