A phone call would be much more personal or at least mailing a card and flowers to your mother. Emails are cold and on such a special occasion you should give your mom at least that phone call just to tell her you love her and you're OK.
More opinions:
- Heck no! My mom would kill me for that. I love her too much to do that though. Phones are too cheap today to ignore that phone call.
- If you can see her go visit her, but if you can not see her, maybe you should mail her a personal letter. Or you could call her up and just have a nice conversation.
