Really depend on how many miles, how well maintained and how hard were those miles, But in general Yes. only bad diesels are 6.x fords.
The answer is yes and no. If the engine is turbo diesel then yes it is a good diesel engine. If there is no turbo do not rely on this engine. The non-turbo engines are almost like a human without lungs and they do not perform at peak levels. Although the German engineers can pull off most anything... I do not recommend the non-turbo engines. The turbo engines can go into the 300,000 mile markers if the engine is maintained well and you might end up having to change the turbo at the 250,000 thousand marker.
"Blow-by" is not good for any engine. It indicates worn internal engine parts (rings)
So far, the 7.3L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel V8. But the old 7.3L PSD is running a tight race with the 05 to 07 6.0L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel V8s. They have been proven to be reliable. The only bad 6.0L PSDs were the 03.5 and 04s. Every Ford diesel made has had some good reliability. If you get an upgraded turbo on the 6.4L and a DPF Delete Kit you are good to go for a high mileage diesel. The 6.9L IDI Ford/International diesel was a great engine. Also, the 7.3L IDI Ford/International diesel engine. The 6.9L IDI and 7.3L IDI didn't have a turbo OR great power, but they were great engines. I am liking the new 2011 6.7L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel V8 that is in the new Super Duty trucks. It seems like it will be a very reliable and long-lasting high-mileage engine. There really isn't a "best" Ford diesel now days, but the early 6.0Ls and the 6.4Ls are definetly the pieces of sh*t in this round!
Rebuild the turbo! Your oil contamination is most likely coming from a leak between your turbo's oiling and cooling passages. That's my best guess w/o looking at it.
I've always had good luck with Rotella-T. Mobil Delvac is decent too. I also run Lucas oil treatment.
if a diesel blows white smoke, it is a good indication of a blown head gasket you have coolant getting into cylanders being 89 model i figure it doesnt have a turbo if a turbo is installed it can be a bad turbo
Using a Diesel fuel conditioner would be good for your engine and would not be bad at all.
This will depend on what the engine is & whats already on it Basic is to add an inter cooler between the turbo & the engine With this in a good position that can take a lot of cool air through it You can then up the turbo pressure by altering the waste gate & then screw the fueling stop out on the boost part of the fuel pump But as i say that is the basics All this will be different if the engine is computer controlled If it is then it can be tuned via the diagnostic plug
With any turbo it is a good idea to let the engine idle briefly before turning it off. This allows the turbo to slow down before losing lubricant. If you don't let it idle it probably won't hurt anything, but over time it may cause the turbo to wear out faster.
The truck's engine roared to life with the familiar rumble of a diesel.
You will need to have some information ready. It is good to know the horsepower and the torque of your diesel engine.
on a good i get 19.5 62 mph
