With a scanning device you can watch live data as to the performance of each O2 sensor you may have. There are scanning devices out there for under $200 that can give live data plus many other functions that can be helpful in diagnostic procedures.
There really isn't any way to test the oxygen sensor to see if it is good or bad. If your check engine light is on you can take it to Autozone and they will hook it up to computer and if the oxygen sensor is bad, the computer will detect it.
theres no good test for this. but heres a few symtoms of a bad 02 sensor. engine will run real rough, engine pinging, bad fuel milage, and increased vehicle emissions. The defective oxygen sensor also shows up as a check engine light or malfunction indicator lamp illuminating in the vehicle's dash board.
how can i check sensor to see which one is bad on toyota avalon
You will have to test the resistance on it to make sure it is within specs.
There is no such thing as an oxygen speed sensor.
The oxygen sensor sends s signal to the computer when the engine is running to rich or lean. If you have it scanned for codes then it will tell you what is happening. The oxygen sensor does not have to be bad to set a code. It could be as simple as a vacuum leak. It is best to see a technician and have him diagnosis it than to replace parts that are good.
This tells you which oxygen sensor is out, look at your vehicle diagram to see where this sensor is located.
If the sensor is bad you will not get spark. Pull off #1 plug wire. careful to only touch the rubber part on the wire, hold the metal tip close to the spark plug & have a buddy turn the engine. You should see a blue arch between the 2 showing you have good spark. You can also test the sensor by disconnecting it & using a voltmeter to test for continuity through the wires.
If you follow the exhaust pipe out from the back of the engine you will see a cable going to the oxygen sensor in the exhaust pipe. You will need a special type of socket to remove the oxygen sensor which you can buy at an auto parts store.
The oxygen sensor is in the rear exhaust manifold. You should be able to see it by looking behind the engine from inside the engine bay.
To test a 1995 Cavalier crank sensor you would need to get a mechanic's computer. They can put a sensor/fuse tester on it and see if it is working properly.
There are four oxygen sensor in a Maxima 2001. See Nissanhelp.com for a diagram location.
