there shouldn't be timing marks under there, but anyways.....if you have a timing light, point it from the top at about 1-2 oclock towards the crankshaft pulley. there should be a reference mark on the timing cover/front cover that sticks out over the crankshaft pulley. there will be 4-5 teeth marks with a larger tooth mark. when setting timing, the timing mark should line up with the "bottom" of the large valley. you have to disconnect the distributor vacuum hose and plug it while you do this. timimg should be 4-12 TDC depending on the specs - check the label, valve cover or manual for the spec. you can, if you want, add 2 degrees from spec for a little more power. afterwards, tighten the dist bolt, recheck the timing mark, then reconnect the dist vacuum hose. adjust idle speed (NOT THE MIXTURE), if necessary, on the carb. reinstall everything ........... yer done.

Typically diesel engines do not have timing marks. However, if there are timning marks on your Mazda B2500 diesel, they will be found below the crankshaft section of the engine.
The hole for the timing marks is located on the front of the engine, right below the distributor. You'll have to remove the hood to get a good angle for the timing light (I don't know why they designed it that way).
The pulleys have marks that line up with marks on the case, See link below for complete step by step how to with pictures.
