You didn't say what year it is but earlier models also had an external voltage regulator that could fail. I would drive it to an auto parts store and let them test the charging system. They will do this service at no cost.

If your alternator stops working you are powering the vehicle on your battery and your battery is not being charged by your faulty alternator so eventually as the battery drains down the car will stop running.
