If you are deciding to work on your marriage it is best you both cut all ties with this mutual "friend". And yes its better to let it go it will bother her anyway that he chose you - no matter how much she bothers you don't let her think she got to ya - best let it go.
However, ask yourself if your strong enough for the possibility of going through this again down the road - just because they make promises and say it will never happen again weren't there already promises made that did hold up. Just something to think about.
