It should be:
My friends and I (if it's the subject and in the nominative case, not the direct or indirect object and in the accusative)
I think by, ". . . it was . . . ," this may refer to the situation created by a conditional, meaning it would be preceded by the word, "IF". That would put it in the subjunctive, so the correct wording would be, "if it were . . . ". If that is not the case, and you have accidentally added the word, "and", then the incorrect sentence would be, "it was me and my mom and dad". The correction would then be, "it was my mom and dad and I." The point here is that when there is a string of people listed, either by name or by title and you (the first person singular) is among the list, always place the first person singular (or plural for that matter), at the end of the list.
