The remote does not work on my 2001 Chevy astro van and the alarm is sounding.how can i turn the alarm off?

I looked up the owner's manual - I also have a 2001 Chevy Astro
Van, and there is a setting called resyncronization. If you hold both buttons down, the lock and unlock, for 8 seconds, it will recycle the alarm and synchronize it to the key fob remote. When the alarm goes off, just hit unlock twice like you normally would, and it should be fixed.
