if you were close friends then go ahead and send him a message or add him, after all, talking on the computer is alot easier than it is in person. if you talked to him in Italy in the first place than this should be easy... if you didn't really know him it might not be a good idea.

on facebook? the blue with the link just means that they've allowed the link to the facebook profile of that relative. no link simply means that they havent done this, but merely listed their siblings or children, etc.
