Many people will disagree, but historians have long noted that Gandhi's peaceful cooperation may have delayed independence. India would not have been free without those freedom fighters who scarificed their lives. Gandi, as some may mention, was a political pawn used by the British to display that they did desire some Indian autonomy.

Nevertheless, Gandhi was key in leading a general movement, and his salt march and cotton encouraged the development of separate industries. His image was very powerful in moving ordinary indians.
