Yes, in fact, he did! Ulysses S. Grant was a favorite general of Abraham Lincoln at the time, and Grant had no problem taking charge and showing the South who's boss. What was so great about Ulysses was that he was one of the most successful generals in his time. Ulysses S. Grant became the 18th president in 1869 until the year 1877. He died in the year 1885.
