The battle of Midway. The US navy struck a major blow on the Japanese

the Battle of Britain which showed two things:

The Germans were not invincible and

they were not going to conquer the whole of Europe on the way to world domination.

Of interest Germany had plans to use the U.K. as a manufacturing base and launch for their A6 rocket being developed to attack the U.S. Combined with their work on the atomic bomb. A U Boat off the Canadian coast surrendered to the Canadians on hearing that Germany had surrendered, her cargo was ore for the Japanese atomic bomb program.

America was also considered a target during the Great War when they developed the Gotha Giant bombers to attack the States. They had two crews and full kitchen facilities, it was a long haul at about 200 mph!
