Bacteria can cause many types of diseases, which we humans1 are hosts to the most common are;

  • Food poisoning ( Salmonella spp ), this affect the kidneys and/or the digestive intestine.
  • Typhoid fever ( Salmonella typhi ), this affects the digestive system, blood, lungs and the bones.
  • Tubercolosis ( Mycobacterium tuberculosis ), this affects the lungs lymph and meninges.
  • Pneumonia ( Streptococcus ), this affects the lungs.
  • Gonorrhoea ( Neisseria gonorrhoeae ), this affects the reproductive organs, and if a pregnant woman in infected the baby's eyed might be infected.
  • Syphilis (Treponema pallidum ), this affects the eyes ad heart and if a pregnant woman is a carrier the baby's nervous system in highly affected, the child can also be born with mental deficiencies and blindness.

All these bacteria can be treated by vaccinations, antibiotics or avoiding contact (sexually and non sexually).

1 Humans are not the only animals that can be affected by these bacteria, other animals such as domestic pets (rabbits, cats etc)
