Usually the number three is mentioned in a fairy tale there are usually three tasks, three objects that must be obtained, etc. Also, the youngest sibling is usually the main character and the only one with a good heart or the ability to do whatever it is that needs doing. Bravery and love always conquer, if the old woman in the forest asks you for help you're usually supposed to give it. And if someone tells the main character NOT to do something (open the locked closet, touch the spinning wheel) you can bet they'll do it before the story ends.
Use anything you've seen to inspire you
ex: something in a magazine or on the news just change it up a little to something with princes and princesses or something like that.
inspiration can come from anywhere
The beginning of the fairy tale is called exposition. It is the description of place and time period the action takes place. The most common exposition is "Once upon a time...", and it represents the abstraction of place and time. Mythologists call this liquid tempus, the eternal infinity of now and ever.
The second part is the body of the story. It is the part of the plot which represents the beginning of the collision and the collision itself. For example an old king fells ill, or notices, that someone steals golden apples from his magical tree, or his son needs to be married...
The main action of the fairy tale is called peripetia. The purpose of peripetia is usually to build suspense all the way up the climactic finish. It can be flashy and rather long. There can be several perepetias in one fairy tale, and there description can take much time.
Climax is the highest point of the main peripetia, the point of highest tension or drama. Climax holds danger for the protagonist and usually consists of a seemingly inevitable prospect of failure, followed by a hard-to-anticipate recovery. It usually bares the solution to the conflict.
After culmination usually comes dénouement. Dénouement determinates whether the ending of the story will be positive or negative, whether the prince marries a beautiful princess, whether he dies in a fight with a monster. Sometimes in some stories from very primitive communities there is no dénouement, no ending, the story suddenly fades, as if the narrator looses the interest to the story.
The most interesting fact about stories is that denouement can have double ending. Usually it is some kind of "happy end" with a negative "sting-in-the-tail". It is the unique feature of fairy tale, and you won't find it in myth, saga, or any other mythological material. For example in Russian Fairy Tales it looks like this: "И я там был, мед-пиво пил, по усам текло, а в рот не попало..."
This kind of double ending is called rite de sortie, a ritual to leave the fairy tale world. This is a magnificent world of dreams, heroes and magic, but you can't stay there forever. This ritual brings our mind back to reality.

Any idea that is interesting enough to you will be a good idea. You cannot write a story or novel based on ideas that someone else invents - you won't be interested enough in the subject to be able to research and write anything that will actually sell. Plus, anonymous people on the internet have no idea how old you are, what your interests are, or how well you can write!
In order to write, you need a personal connection to the subject. Write about whatever you enjoy, or whatever you find interesting, and you will end up with your novel or story.
WikiAnswers is happy to help you learn how to write better. We will not do your writing for you by giving you ideas and paragraphs to copy.
Here are some more suggestions from WikiAnswers contributors:
• Write about what you know. A good idea for a first novel is to write your own personal story. Everyone has at least one novel in them waiting to be written.
• Observe the world around you. Anything interesting can be an idea for a story or novel.
• Research. The more you know, the more ideas you will have.
• Read stories and books that other authors have written in your chosen genre. This way, you can see how other people do things.
A story can be either plot driven, character driven, or both. Most are stories are both but one or the other usually takes precedence. Charles Dickens' novels are primarily character driven Ian Flemings' are plot driven (although all the plots are the same.) If you need a place to start - trying thinking up interesting characters who can be developed and evolved against an interesting plot, or think up a good crisis that characters can be illuminated through.
Some writers take ancient or long time ago fairy tales such as The Frog Prince and Cinderella and turn them into something completely new for our generation, which is a first idea.
Most olden fairy tales do not describe how their characters feel when being turned invisible, stretched or turned into a frog, like all authors do nowadays.
It makes you wonder when you read Cinderella or The Frog Prince, "Does it hurt being turned into a frog?" Then your brain starts clicking.
Some authors have written 'rewrites' of fairy tales but with their own twist, like the new movie, 'The Princess and the Frog' was a remake of the original story The Frog Prince, which in fact, needed a princess to kiss him.
Nobody expected the princess to turn into a frog as well like Tianna did in the Princess and the Frog. That was their twist, which made the story totally new.
Some ideas for a fairy tale story is to make it seem like a fairy tale.
Most fairy tales are written about princesses, dark witches, handsome princes, kingdoms, etc. You have to create your own fairy tale land, like fairy tales do. You have to create a likable princess.
Fairy tales are very enjoyable stories which does not take much effort to write.
