Food is the major source of energy in the human body. It also provides us with essential nutrients for maintaining life - protein, fat, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins. Eating helps us to keep all life processes going. Lack of food causes malnutrition which goes hand to hand with different deficiencies. Exclusion of one certain nutrient of the diet causes the body system it is responsible for to not function properly. There is no food which would provide all of the nutrients at once, therefore a balanced diet consisting of different foods is essential for humans.
