There are several different things that can cause a car to run hot. It is easier ti narrow down the likely cause by knowing a little more about the problem. Does the car when cold on start up immiediatly start to warm up and get hot as you drive and not cool back down. most likely thermostat is stuck. does it get hot while the car sets in traffic but cool back down when you get up some speed? could be clogged radiator, or bad fan. if electrical fan if the fan is not turning when the car is hot, theres the problem. it could be bad fan clutch if it is a mechanical fan, fan turns but not fast enough because fan clutch is bad. It could be a small leak in the cooling system and your losing the coolant. Check radiator hoses and heater hose for cracks. or holes, make sure radiator cap seals properly. Could be a blown head gasket causing loss of coolant. These are the main cause other problems could also, do it.

A car running hot after it has been started could be blown head gaskets. The thermostat may also need to be replaced.
