Typically, mechanics would look first to replace fuses and relays, but if you turn the car on (not start it) and pump the gas a few (3-4) times only to find no gasoline smell under the hood, your fuel pump is not getting fuel to the places it needs to be. Usually, your next step would be to switch the relay with the blower relay or another known good one and see if it works. If you are still unable to get the gasoline smell, you may need to replace the fuel filter and most likely the fuel pump. At this point, you should have no problem seeing if your fuel pump is bad as you can test for voltage at the wire connection to the pump and if you have good power there and are not getting any fuel to pump to the injectors, you probably have a bad pump. This response is given by an ASE certified technician to advise or guide people on how to fix an issue without access to a full set of mechanics' resources.
