Though he accomplished a lot prior to becoming President, John Adams was also an active Commander in Chief. He kept America out of the war between Britain and France, and also signed the highly controversial Alien and Sedition Acts.

I am pretty sure that John Adams had a lot of major contributions on his tenure as a president. One of the most important ones is helping the economy prosper.
