Hellenistic culture was spread through the reign of Alexander the Great. Alexander the Great's father, Phillip II, conquered all of Greece and united it under one ruler, himself. When Alexander took power, he maintained this empire, and spread the Greek culture throughout it. He was probably influenced by his tutor, Aristotle, who was Greek, and would have taught him Greek ideas. Alexander built Greek style cities throughout his empire (notably Alexandria), had all government officials and soldiers speak solely Greek, and worshipped Greek gods (among others).
