The South had several advantages over the North. First, the South was fighting for preservation; if they lost the war, the North would crush their government and re-absorb them back into the Union. These Southern men were fighting for a cause they believed in, which makes them much more motivated and determined than their Northern counterparts, who were on a campaign to conquest. Second, for the latter portion of the war the battles were fought on Southern territory. This increased a soldiers resolve because they were defending their children, their wives, their mothers and everything they held dear to them.
Some of the best Generals in the US Army had resigned to join the Confederates.
The Confederate rank-&-file were an aggressive and soldierlike breed, raring for a darn good fight.
There was a stronger cavalry tradition - most young men owned at least one horse.
The Confederates (mostly) did not have to do the invading - they just had t defend the homeland against the invader, which was a simple and emotive mission.
(At the beginning) They expected to export their cotton in exchange for war supplies, and gain official recognition and military aid from Britain and France.

The South had better generals (Robert E. Lee) than the north did at the start of the war. Also, the south's troops typically had higher moral.
The North had two disadvantages. As the invading army, they lacked detailed knowledge of the local terrain, and most of the experienced professional officers were Southern, meaning that, at the beginning of the war, the North lacked leadership.
There were a multitude of disadvantages that the South had in the US Civil War. The states that seceded had to create a central government from scratch. The South had no navy and had to either build it themselves or have warships built for them in England. Another major disadvantage was the fact that the North had an huge population compared to the South. Thus, the North could build armies from its vast population.
Its proximity to a bellicose North Korea, and isolation at the tip of the Korean Peninsula are its two main disadvantages.
There is NO North Vietnam & South Vietnam today (and there hasn't been a north & south for over 30 years; when the north conquered the south, ending the war in 1975). Today's Communist Vietnam is President Triet.

Two disadvantages in the North during the Civil War was that the North didn't have as good tactics as the South did. Another one is that the South fought on their own land so they knew the land better than the North did. Sources: Learned it in school
The north pole is over water and the south pole is over land.
they didnt have enough money or people to fight the north. in the north they had money people and they had supplies
The issue that the North and South fought over was called the Wilmot Proviso. It was basically a law of slavery: the North and South were fighting over slavery. The North were anti-slavery and the South were pro-slavery
