While emo is a state of mind, it is also a fashion, music, and can even be considered a time era! To dress emo, you need to understand what emo means. Emo means more then a person that cuts themselves. I have given you the real definition of emo below.
Emo- A state of mind that can include fashion, music, and a time era that was in some style around the 1970's moving throughout to the 1990's, and has since become popular with teens and young adults.
To be emo, you don't have to be depressed about anything. You just have to be extremely sensitive, as to cry over a spider, because life was so unfair as to make it a spider that will end up being squashed by some one, or having it's legs pulled off by some curious kid.
To dress emo, you must wear mostly dark colours, with the occasional pop of colour, (but no pastels in wardrobe), and have black eyeliner on, no matter what hour in the morning it is. Wear Converse All-Stars, (or at least like maybe, depending on who you are, you can pull off Airwalks ). You should wear tight, tight, tight skinny jeans, and tight, tight, tight band tees (jeans should be about 1-3 sizes too small and tees about 2-4 sizes too small). You should listen to non-famous bands or emo bands like Boys Like Girls.
If you add your own style to these basic guidelines of emo-ness, no one can call you a poser with out looking like one themselves.
I guess im emo. i mean, emo does stand for emotional. if you want to be emo, ur a freak. no truly emo person got out of bed one day and decided to be emo. if u just want to look cool, then ur a total poser. just becuz ur emo doesnt mean u wher a bunch of dark clothes. its a state of mind.
