What did American and British strategists decide to do immediately after Pearl Harbor?

British and American strategists believed it would be better to concentrate on Germany, the leader of the Axis, first. then deal with Japan. Unwittingly, Hitler helped make the strategy a reality by declaring war on the United States, which had expressed no desire to fight Germany up until that point.

Where did Hitler take over in 1936?

he didn't took over any country, the first country he took over was Poland, which he took over in September 1 1939 *adding on, he didnt take over any country, but he did send an army to the Rhineland, an area that according to the Treaty of Versailles, was not supposed to be occupied by German military. He did this to basically "test the waters" to see how the world would react.

During the years leading up to World War 2 which nations initially followed a policy of appeasement?

France and Great Britain. They had been most directly responsible for the Versailles peace treaty of 1919 with Germany after WW 1. Both countries had come to realize that giving away big chunks of Germany to newly established countries and imposing immense 'repair payments' and other demands on Germany had been the cause of many great social and economic problems that in turn had led to the wave of resentment on which Hitler had ridden to power. Both countries had therefore reason to greatly fear a resumption of the war. France only prepared for defense and in the meantime was not prepared to do anything to provoke Hitler. Britain therefore stood utterly alone - the USA had become firmly isolationist - and knew it simply did not have the army to succesfully face Germany if it would now confront Germany with any form of ultimatum. British PM Neville Chamberlain has been much maligned for his appeasement policy. But realistically speaking, he had little or no alternatives at the time.

How did the Nazi party come to power in Germany?

After WWI, Germany was in ruins. It had to pay off debts to other countries and take full blame for the war. Inflamation rose rapidly and after the Kaiser fled, Germany was in need of a new leader. As the Nazis gained more votes they became more powerful. The citizens liked the Nazis ideas. Hitler promised that Germany would be a respected, powerful nation once again and that everyone would have enough money. To the people of Germany, it seemed like an easy solution. MMhhhh... After the Kaiser resigned, there where many political parties before Hilter came around. ( There were around 15 years in between and the black Friday ). The People where poor and the unemployment rate was high. He promised work for anyone. At the beginning it worked out fine, when they started to build highways and all those things. The people had work again and could fed their families. I don´t say that nobody knew what Hitler planned, but they didn´t have much choice at that time and when Hiltler came in charge it was to late to think about.

How did Nazis gain power at the Nazi party?

Answer 1Adolf Hitler was of the personal belief that competition should be encouraged, even in the party. That the strongest would prevail over those weakest. NSDAP officials would gain power if they proved to be efficient, or if they were an internal friend of Hitlers inner circle of close officials. This is proven with the many individuals who held same ranks like Sturmbannführerr.Answer 2In studying the NSDAP (Nazi Party) and how they came to power, it appears that it was a progressive process that eventually allowed Adolf Hilter and his supporters to achieve power. Here is an outline of certain steps that allowed the Nazi regime to gain power...Hitler becomes 55th member of the DAP (German Workers' Party). This was the beginning party of the Nazis and entry of Adolf Hitler into politics.Claiming to be a founding member of the party, the DAP is renamed the National Socialist German Workers Party (abbreviated NSDAP).Eventually, Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany in 1933, although it was not a clear majority and did not give them unrestricted power.Reichstag fire occurs and Hitler puts forth the "Enabling Act" that allows him unrestricted power for the next four years. During which, the Cabinet had the authority to enact laws without the participation of the Reichstag. Giving Hitler "dictatorial" status and allowing him power to install his own policies for Germany (24 March 1933).President Paul von Hindenburg died August 2nd 1934 and his power was transferred to Hitler to give him the title of "Führer und Reichskanzler" (Leader and Chancellor)These were some of the more important steps that allowed Nazism to gain power. And with events such as the Night of the Long Knives and Kristallnacht, it strengthened their control over the people of Germany.

Was giving Hitler what he wanted so Britain would have more time a mistake?

No it was not a mistake. Britain needed more time to get there army, navy, and airforce in striking position so that when we all attacked Germany we would be so prepared it would be like a simple battle. Luckily the gamble worked and we went into Germany and took Hitler's army down. Remember we needed Britain to help us beat them and they needed us as well. It was sort of like a "if you scratch my back ill scratch yours" situation.

Why should the appeasement of Hitler NOT have happened?

The people who sought to appease Hitler had mistaken him for a reasonable person, rather than taking him for the vicious psychopath that he was. Many argue that appeasement was needed, or else Germany would of drawn closer to Russian and the US would of continued its isolationist dogma.
