Acids and bases neutralize each other. This is pretty obvious, as you probably know an acid donates H+ ions, while bases accepted them.

An reaction between an acid and base would produce the salt of the two. Sulfuric acid produces sulfate salts, nitric acid produces nitrite salts, hydrochloric acid produces chloride salts, etc. The salt is not alkaline nor acidic, just neutral.
