It's doing the same thing as little children do when they explore things with their mouths, only kittens, and puppies too, are carnivores, so they tend to be a little more nippy and use their teeth too. This is not a problem, but once they stop using it for exploration and start using it for play, then it would be better to give them something that they can bite on that is not your hands. The best toys for cats are ones you can control from a distance and have them chase, pounce, and attack. Remember that cats are predators. In fact, Animal Planet in their show, the Most Extreme, rated the house cat at the top of the list of killers, because they kill over a hundred different species of animals, from insects to reptiles, birds, and small mammals. So let them practice hunting, anything but your fingers. BTW-Dogs are predators too, but the kill instinct has been bred out of them. But for puppies as well, find things that they can play with other than nipping on your fingers. _________________ I would like to add that no instinct can ever be truly eliminated, hence why it is called an instinct.
