Limited Slip was an optional feature and also was part of the Off-Road or UpCountry option package. Look for a warning tag in the glove box, an extra tag on a differntail cover bolts, or open the differential an inspect the carrier. The Limited Slip carrier looks different than the open differential carrier.

The Haynes Repair Manual for Jeep Cherokee - 1984 thru 2001 mentions however, that there were some with 13.5 "Standard" and 20 "Optional". both above answers are correct. What I did was run the tank down to the yellow warning light and then some, you should still have 2+ gallons in there and then fill up...............Mike The Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2001 holds about 16 gallons. My 1996 Jeep Grand Laredo will hold 21.5 gallons, coasted into gas station once and it filled to this amount.

Not sure about the 98 but on my 2002 you step through the info screen and when it comes to perform service (usually for an oil change) you have to hold the reset button for at least 30 seconds before it resets.
