Heidenmauer erbaut unter Kaiser Valentinian, ältestes Bauwerk Wiesbadens, bedeutendstes spätrömisches Denkmal zwischen Rhein und Limes = Heathen Wall built under Emperor Valentinian, Wiesbaden's oldest structure, most important late-Roman monument between the Rhine and the limes.
A limes (lee'mez) was a border defence (or delimiting system of ancient Rome). It marked the boundaries of the Roman Empire.
The Heidenmauer was built by the Romans to keep the local Germanic tribe out of their settlement, Aquae Mattiacorum.
