We have no way of knowing what food and drink Shakespeare was particularly fond of. For all we know he may have hated cheese. As likely as not, he ate about the same things that people did back then in England: ale, mulled wine, capons, beef, fish, salads (sallets). He did not drink cocoa, or coffee, or fresh milk, and did not eat potatoes, or tomatoes, or peppers, or fast food of any kind. These things were not available at that time. (Milk was not available to city dwellers because it went bad so quickly without pasteurization or refrigeration.)

Potatoes were first brought to England by Sir Walter Raleigh, (who also brought tobacco first), and as he was a contemporary of Shakespeare it is possible that Shakespeare was amongst the first of his generation to eat the potato.

Elizabethans ate a huge variety of kinds of food--far more than we do nowadays. They ate swans and wild boars and flower petals and fruits like medlars and quinces which we rarely or never see. They didn't, however, eat new world foods which were only starting to be recognized in Europe: potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, maize corn, chocolate and vanilla, and different kinds of beans and squash.

Of course we have no information about Shakespeare particularly, but we do know something about diet in the Elizabethan era. New World Foods were still very new, and were not integrated into everyday diet. You wouldn't find potatoes, or tomatoes, or vanilla, or capsicum peppers. There was no fast food and no foreign cuisine unless it was French--no Hamburgers, Pizza, curries, dim sum or sushi. On the other hand they ate a broader variety of fruits, vegetables and meats. They ate medlars, and quinces, swans, peacocks, sorrel, and edible flowers. Also, they did not have much sugar. A pound of sugar cost three months' wages.

William Shakespeare ate bread daily in his life time. He also enjoyed a good mug of brewed tea. Shakespeare is best known for his poetry and playwrights.
