Gravity is the force holding the Moon to the Earth. Without gravity, the Moon would go flying off into space.

Without gravity, the EARTH would go spinning off into space.

Heck, without gravity, all of US would go spinning off into space.

The reason it doesn't smash into the earth is because of the momentum it already has carrying it away from earth. Any object in space orbiting another has found a perfect balance between speed away from the center object, and mutual attraction of the objects. For example the earth around the sun, or the moon around the earth.
