When Christopher Columbus arrived in America, he thought he was in India, which was where he was trying to go. That's how they got the name "Indians". The settlers pushed all Native Americans out of New England and westward. That is why you don't see many Native American tribes in New England anymore.

They were forced out of their homes inthe Eastern US, and made to walk to a reservation in Oklahoma. About 1/3 of all the Cherokee people in the world died on that movement. Some of the People were able to avoid being made to move- today the Cherokee Nation is divided, with People in the East and West.
