John Adams (1735-1826) was the first Vice President of the United States, and the second President. As one of the Founding Fathers, he contributed to the success of the Revolutionary War, one of those who persuaded Congress to declare independence in 1776. He also wrote most of the Massachusetts State Constitution in 1780.
After 8 years as Washington's Vice President (1788-1797), he was elected in 1796 and served a single term from 1797 to 1801, during which the US rebuilt its navy for the Quasi-War with France. He was succeeded by his Vice President, Thomas Jefferson, who led the Republican political opposition. His son, John Quincy Adams, likewise served a single term as the 6th President, during which Adams died on July 4, 1826, ironically on the same day as Jefferson.

John Adams was the second United States President and the first vice president. He's son was the 6th President. He was born in Massachusetts Bay Colony on October 30, 1735. Adams began his education in a common school in Braintree. He secured a scholarship to Harvard as a lawyer and graduated at the age of 20. His wife, Abigail Adams, is one of history's best-known First Ladies. Abigail Adams was the great-grandmother of historian Henry Adams. They had five children, Abigail Amelia Adams (1765-1813); John Quincy Adams (1767-1848); Susanna Adams (1768-70); Charles Adams (1770-1800); Thomas Boylston Adams (1772-1832) On November 1, 1800, just before the election, Adams arrived in the new Capital City to take up his residence in the White House. On his second evening in its damp, unfinished rooms, he wrote his wife, "Before I end my letter, I pray Heaven to bestow the best of Blessings on this House and all that shall hereafter inhabit it. May none but honest and wise Men ever rule under this roof." Adams retired to his farm in Quincy. Here on July 4, 1826, he (age 90) whispered his last words: "Thomas Jefferson survives." However, Jefferson (age 83) had died at Monticello a few hours earlier. Ok, freaky, hours apart, same day of the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, they die. How weird is that? I'm glad I pick this dude he had some supernatural ending. *-*
