MySpace stalking comes under the heading of Cyber stalking. These types of chat forms are a treasure trove for stalkers of perverts who are trying to find out information on certain people (mainly aimed at the young.) It is a form of mental assault by choosing a victim and disrupting their life. The stalker generally comes onto MySpace or other chat forums choosing a particular person they want to be friends with to try and get as much personal information from them as they can. The are crafty, sly and can quickly find out in what country, town, city or even a school or workplace of that person. The signs of a stalker on MySpace or other chat forums: Asking too many personal questions such as simple things like 'do you belong in sports and if so what is your favorite sport.' Later they will ask 'what is the name of your team.' The conversation goes on and on without the victim being fully aware at the beginning. Some stalkers may speak sexually towards their victim to test the waters to see if the victim will respond. Other stalkers may feel there is more to the friendship and become jealous of their victim speaking to other friends on MySpace and begin to utter threats or harass the victim. They may even threaten the victim's friends or make up lies about the person to others on MySpace to segregate them for the stalkers own use. Stalkers are often famous for making false accusations against their victims and even go as far as to set-up a website or blog for the purpose of damaging their victim's reputation. Stalkers may try and often succeed in tracing the victim's IP address in order to gain more information about their victim. The stalker will often try to turn the situation around and have others believe that the actual victim was stalking them! If angered the stalker may try to damage the victim's computer. WARNING: Stalkers will often try to get the young victim to meet them somewhere (the victim may feel they are good friends or he/she is in love with them.) This in most cases is NOT true and people on 'any forum' should not give out any personal information and should NEVER meet a person off a chat forum. On MySpace there is a box where one can click on to report abuse and they should do so if they are being harassed or bullied in any way. Pornography is at a high on any chat forums. Example: A young woman can be chatting away and suddenly a so-called young man takes an interest in her and before she knows it she believes they are in love. They may even take their relationship off the forum and email each other. The more serious they become and the more the victim trusts this man (the stalker) she may well feel comfortable enough by sending him sexy poses of herself (sometimes in the nude) and the stalker is only too happy to put this on a chat forum; possibly sell it as pornography and the victims person life is splashed all over the internet.

It is important for young women to realize they do NOT know the person they are talking too be it male or female and that they should never give out information about themselves or give photos of themselves. Often the person on the other end could well be an older man that enjoys taunting young women and it's strictly a game with him. Even some younger men are into the same act of finding a victim and some young women enjoy stalking other girls on a chat forum and making their lives a living hell.
