An iPad is Apples variant of a tablet. The biggest (and basically only) difference between the two devices is the size of the device. The latest iPad is 9.4in x 6.6in x 0.24in (240mm x 169.5mm x 6.1mm) vs the iPod Touch which is 4.85in x 2.3 in x 0.24in (123.4mm x 58.6mm x 6.1mm). However they both run iOS as the firmware, and the iPad can get higher resolution 'HD' apps that better suit the bigger screen size.
