Posidrive is a variation or improvement on the Phillips screwdriver. It has flat sided faces, instead of the slightly tapering Phillips, but this is only really an advantage when using posidrive screws.

What is the advantage of a posidrive screw over a slot headed screw?

A posidrive screw stays centered over the driving tool. On Slotted head screws, the screwdriver can slip easily out of the groove. A very nice kind of screw is the "TORX" head screw. With the proper torx bit, they cannot slip or strip easily while screwing them into wood or metal.
