Original: I love you dad is Toi YEu cha ( If you love very much then say Toi Yeu Cha Lam )

---------------------------------------------

EDIT: To say "toi" to your own dad is like slapping him in the face. And yeu is to actually show love in the romantic way. So if you're into incest than I suggest you use another word.

The ACTUAL way to say it is "Con thuong bo/ba" [Bo/Ba because depending on which part of Vietnam you're from the people say "dad" differently.

Nice fail translation from Google translate.

For a guy to say it to a girl is : Anh Yeu Em

For a girl to say it to a guy is : Em Yeu Anh

Warning this combination of pronouns means romantic love. If it is not romantic use "toi" for the I pronoun and "ban" for the you pronoun to be polite and safe. You can only use "em" for you in a nonromantic love if the other person is a slightly younger female (respectful feminine sense) or the other person is a young child of either gender. You can only use "anh" for you in a nonromantic love if the other person is a slightly older man (respectful masculine sense). It is very easy for an English speaker to seriously insult a Vietnamese person by incorrect use of their pronouns. Always ask a native Vietnamese friend for the correct pronouns to use before meeting anyone you do not already know to avoid insulting them!

There are entirely different pronouns for telling your parents, your children, your relatives, etc. that you love them. Each combination of pronouns changes the type and degree of love (even with the same word used for love).

For example my Vietnamese girlfriend insists that I must use "anh" and "em" when talking to her even when I don't say "anh yeu em", but she only uses "toi" and "anh" with me and never says "toi yeu anh" because I am already in love with her but she is not yet in love with me and I am slightly older than she is. It is so easy, natural, and automatic to express this asymmetry of our relationship in her Vietnamese language, and so difficult and unnatural to express it in my English language.
