I have a 2005, 2.0 liter inline 4 cylinder and live in Texas, where even city driving often means some 60+ mph highways stretches on long, flat roads and I average about 25-26 with mostly city driving and 27-29 with more highway than city. EPA estimates highway mileage at 32 MPG and city about 23, if I recall correctly. Driving habits and regular maintenance make the biggest difference. Accelerate smooth and easy, change the oil and oil filter every 3-4,000 miles with a good synthetic blend Air filters are important. Don't use Fram! Get a Purolator for about the same price, breathes AND filters better. Change spark plugs every 20-25,000 miles (according to owner manual), and spend five bucks on some decent injection cleaner every month (Techron is best, Gumout is very good).
