You must understand the two main equations of the model. One equation calculates the allele frequencies and the other calculates the genotype frequencies. You are dealing with frequencies so both equations must add up.

Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (invented by British mathematician Godfrey Hardy and German physician Wilhelm Weinberg) is when a population isn't evolving and meets the following five conditions:

  1. The population is huge; genetic drift won't affect it.
  2. There's no emigration or immigration; no gene flow occurs involving that population.
  3. No mutations occur, so no new alleles are introduced into the population's gene pool.
  4. There's random mating; no sexual selection occurs.
  5. There's no natural selection; all traits within the population equally aid all the individuals' survival.

Normal populations on Earth are usually never in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, because a population can lose many members from catastrophes; organisms often migrate to and from populations; mutations are constantly, naturally occurring; individuals are often meant to be choosy when they're ready to reproduce; and some traits increase fitness more than other traits.

According to the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium allele frequency does not change and there is no evolution. An artificial constraint not seen in nature. No mutation and natural selection under Hardy-Weinberg constraints.

if the population fits the hardy-Weinberg model, then there is no evolution but since that's not true for real life, it's used to show if the variation is random chance or not

What is an equilibrium in meteorology?

I am a meteorologist. An equilibrium, as it pertains to meteorology, most likely applies to a pressure equilibrium - or equalization of pressure. "Equilibrium" means balance, or balanced.
