While potatoes vary greatly in size or shape, potatoes produced commercially are ordered and packed based on average size and weight. The range is from extra large, with the average potato weighing 560 gm (20oz) down to small, with the average potato weighing 185gm (6.5 oz). It could be said therefore that the "average potato" is about 375 gm (13.25 oz).
The packaging of potatoes this way is reflected in the potato stalls and pre-packed bags found in supermarkets and fruit & vegetable stores. Most have scales handy - so you can weigh a few samples from different stalls and get a feel for what each size weighs.
Very large potatoes are good for making long fries. Smaller potatoes are ideal for steaming or baking whole. For virtually everything else mid-sized potatoes are the best - as you can always cut them to size.
Potatoes (baking or other) come in many different weights.
That is 10 pounds
5 kg
Well bags of potatoes vary in weight. The average bag of store potatoes weighs 5 kg or 11 lbs.. The average bag of farm potatoes weighs 10 kg or 22 lbs..
A large bag (1 pound) might have 10 to 12 medium potatoes, a snack bag (1 oz) would probably have come from a single potato. The frying process replaces the water weight with some oil, so the weight of the potatoes was about 4 times the weight of the bag of chips.
It would depend on how much each potato weighs. On average, however, one average sized potato weighs about 375 grams. (See the question and answer concerning the average weight of a potato.) Assuming all of the potatoes are average sized as defined by commercial producers. Five pounds is about 2,267 grams. In that case, a 5 pound bag of potatoes should contain (on average) about 6 average sized potatoes and a 10 pound bag of potatoes should contain about 12 average sized potatoes.
A meter.
Weight it.
Kilograms if you're answering a Maths question, pounds if you're doing the shopping and you're over 40.
Neither. Since they both have a weight of 1kg (kilogram) one cannot be heavier than the other.
I just took my bag out and counted them, there is 31 potatoes in the bag of Russet potatoes I purchased from Pick n Save.
an average potato may weigh 150 grams (0.33 lb) so there could be 20/25 in an 8 lb bag
7 pounds
The weight of potatoes can vary greatly, but the "average potato's" weight is said be 13.25 ounces. Below is a URL with a description of the weights of potatoes:What_is_the_average_weight_of_an_uncooked_potato40 oz/13.25 oz = approximately 3 potatoesIf the potatoes are not the same in weight, then you will need to add the total ounces.
Fairly inexpensive compared to most veggies. It is currently $3.49 for a 5lb bag on sale.
