There are many ways to earn money. As for the best way, one must understand how cash flow works first in order to determine the best way. First, I'll explain how the majority of people make their money.

LINEAR INCOME

Linear income is probably the simplest way to make money. The majority of the people make their money this way. Unfortunately, in my opinion, it is not the best way to earn money. In linear income you trade your time or a skill for $$. You work one hour, you get payed for an hour. Or you work on a project, you get payed for that project. Kind of like a hamster in a cage. That hamster knows that if he pulls a lever, a pellet will come out and he can eat.

Examples of people who make linear income are:

• Employees - As an employee, you are employed by a business and you are trading your time for money. The problem with this is that your employer tells you how much you are worth. An other problem with this is that if you don't work, you don't get payed. Although there is absolutely nothing wrong with being an employee, in my opinion, this is the worst way to get payed.
• Self Employment - As a self employed person, you trade a craft or a skill for money. A doctor who practices out of his/her own office, an attorney who has his/her own law firm, a contractor. Although the pay is higher when you are self employed, again, the problem with this is that you have to go work in order to get payed. If a doctor goes on vacation, he/she can't see patients, therefore, he/she won't get payed.

Working for linear income is why 95% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. They have no control of what the are going to make.

PASSIVE INCOME

Here is where the real money comes in. I'll be honest with you though. It's going to take hard work and sweat to build a passive income. Passive income is when money keeps coming in after the initial effort has been expended. In other words, you keep getting payed after you've done the work.

Examples of passive income are:

• Royalties - Let's take a look at Jerry Seinfield. Seinfeld is an American television sitcom that originally aired on NBC from July 5, 1989, to May 14, 1998. Jerry Seinfield is still getting payed every time this show is syndicated or DVD's are bought. A recording artist also gets payed this way. He/she records a song once, and continues to get payed years later. Michael Jackson for example. He's the highest payed dead celebrity at the moment, followed by Elvis Presley (according to Forbes Magazine.)
• Investments - This is where it takes money to make money. You make your money work for you. This is not to be confused with stocks in the stock market. That is called trading. Investments is where you give a company certain amount of money to start up and you make a deal where you earn a certain percentage of their earnings every year. Donald Trump makes his money this way.
• Business System - This is where you build a business system that continues to pay you even though you are not working. McDonalds is a great example. They may not make the greatest hamburger in the world, but the reason they are so successful is because they have a great system. People don't make you money, systems do.

In short, the answer to your questions is: Passive income or residual income is the best way to make money.

The old saying of "Go to school, get a good job, save for retirement" is not true anymore. You want to create an income that will continue to come in years or even decades after you've stopped working or are dead.
