Here are some good tips specifically for higher level classes:

  • Use a study time table - click on the related question if you don't know how to make one - you need to plan out your study time so that you can get everything done! I also like keeping a big calendar in the family room with the due dates of all the big projects (like exams, book reports, and science projects) posted so that everybody knows when they have to be done.

  • Keep an assignment notebook - have one place where you write down every assignment that you have. It's much easier to keep up with one book, and you'll be less likely to lose your assignments if they're all together.
  • Take good notes - also related questions! Have a notebook for each one of your classes. In this notebook, write down anything that the teacher stresses during class lectures. Also write down any important facts that you read in the textbook (they're usually in bold print), as well as any vocabulary words that you think might be harder to remember (along with the definitions). You'll use these notebooks to study instead of trying to read the textbook over again.
  • Use flash cards - any time you need to memorize a list of items (vocabulary, facts, dates, whatever), write each item on one card and write the answer on the back. Keep these cards with you all the time! Whenever you have a few minutes free, take out the cards and study - read the first item; if you know the answer, move that card to the back of the deck and turn it upside down to show it's finished; if you don't know that one, read over the answer a couple of times and then stick that card back into the middle of the deck so you will have to try it again. By the time all your cards are turned upside down, you will know the material!
  • Think ahead - in high school, you need to be careful not to get distracted with all the extra-curricular fun going on. Plan ahead and don't sign up for too many clubs or sports teams, for example. If your grades start slipping, be prepared to cut back on the other activities until you get caught back up. Don't schedule a night out with friends when you have a big test coming up. Don't skive off the studying because you'd rather play Video Games. Don't let everything pile up until the last minute.
  • Cut out the distractions. When you're studying, you need to think of it as a job. You don't go to work and stand there chatting on the internet or texting your friends! When you study, shut down all the websites, chat rooms, IM boxes, text messages, and anything else that will distract you from focusing. Cut off the television and turn your music way down until it's not distracting you. Tell your friends and family that you need to concentrate and not to bother you until you are finished (do say this politely, please).

Answer

Make a calendar for the class--note important dates from the class syllabus. On test weeks, reduce outside activities.

Do all the homework regardless of what opinion you have of it. Turn it in. The thing is you can't learn everything you'll need to know by cramming--so do the work as you go.

Do the work right away on projects as they are assigned. Let it rest and then do a second and third draft.

Try to anticipate test questions from class discussions. Plan your answers; memorize 3-4 main points for essays.

Do the reading; take notes on what the teacher says--things that are a different viewpoint or additional information.

Finally, if you cannot grasp a concept get help from a friend or go to the teacher and figure it out. Enjoy Biology, lots of interesting facts will come your way!

Study and ask your teacher questions and for help when needed. Talk about what you learn to your friends to get more out of the lessons, and participate in all lab experiments.

How do you study for the act?

The best way that I have found to study for standardized tests is to do practice tests. This gives you a sense of what kind of questions the test will ask so you are prepared and understand the language. In addition standardized tests test the same material, maybe not the same questions, but about the same topic. If you don't understand one topic finding that out on the practice test can increase your score a lot.

Taking Pre GED Tests?

Before you take the GED test, it is always important to study. However, not everyone has the same study habits. One way many people study for the GED is by taking pre GED tests. Whether you take the tests online or use the tests located in the back of many GED study guides, pre tests will help you understand what you need to study before taking the real GED test. Once you study a section of the GED, try taking a few practice tests to see if you understand the material. If you do not understand the material, continue studying until you pass the practice test.
