A union territory is an administrative division of India. Unlike states, which have their own local governments, union territories are ruled directly by the national government. The history of India (numerous ethnic groups: each group had its own leader & each leader pasted its deep remark on the people & the rule of British) divided India. Like the United States, India is also divided into many states but it is also divided into union territories.

India is currently (2012) divided into-28 states and 7 union territories:

The states, have their own elected governments, BUT union territories are ruled directly by the federal national government; the President of India appoints an Administrator or Lieutenant-Governor for each territory. As of 2006, there are seven union territories. Delhi was made the National Capital Territory in 1991 and is on its way to statehood

The following are the current union territories of India:

* Andaman and Nicobar Islands

* Chandigarh

* Dadra and Nagar Haveli

* Daman and Diu

* Lakshadweep

* Pondicherry

* National Capital Territory of Delhi

What is difference between UK government and Indian government?

India is a federal republic and, at the same time, a parliamentary democracy while England practices constitutional monarchy. In this connection, India has a president and a prime minister. Although England also has its own head of state in the form of a prime minister, it also has a symbolic royalty head in the form of a ruling monarch. What is the difference between municipality and corporation?

Only the very technical difference that the "municipal corporation" is the legal entity comprising the government, and the municipality is the territory which forms the jurisdiction of the municipal corporation. It is like the difference between "state" (in the sense of "head of state", not a division of the United States) and "country". Very technical.
