Modem is a contraction of MOdulator DEModulator. It changes the digital 1s and 0's that a computer uses and turns them into a signal that can be sent down a telephone line. The modem at the other end puts the signal back back into 1s and 0s and passes the information to the computer.
it stands for modulator - demodulator
it modulates and demodulates a signal.
ie converts it from digital to analogue so it can be transmitted through wire and on the other side it is converted back to digital so a computer can read it
For dial-up internet access, most laptops have one because some areas of the world don't have broadband, and dial-up is the only option. I personally use mine with a Caller ID program to see calls on my computer. I also believe there is a way to use them for networking in some way.
A modem is a device that lets computers communicate with each other over telephone lines or the Internet. In computer terms, a modem is basically a software program that helps two computers to communicate with each other. Modems are used in many different ways, including connecting to the Internet, sending and receiving email, and connecting to printers.
modem is used to connect the computer or make the computer asseccible to the internat. mote
Is the device that lets a computer communicate digital data to other computers over a non-digital data communication line.
any of a class of electronic devices that convert digital data signals into modulated analog signals suitable for transmission over analog telecommunications circuits.
what do you mean the bullet in computer terms

what do you mean the bullet in computer terms
Did you mean "modem"- If it is modem it stands for MODULATOR/DEMODULATOR. In simple terms something that converts digital signal to analogue and back
Well it depends on whether the computer connects to the internet with this modem. If you're talking about an external cable modem, you would probably lose your internet connection. If you're talking about an internal dialup modem inside the computer, removing it would mean you can't connect via dialup but it would not affect the external modem. Hope this helps
An internal modem is housed within the main computer. An external modem is on the outside of the computer and connected to the computer with a cable.
is a standard modem considered to be a computer hardware
Most commonly, a computer modem is a device that gives you internet from your Internet Service Provider (ISP). They usually connect to your phone, cable, or dish line to send and receive data. To get internet, you then connect your computer to the modem directly or you connect to a device called a router (share internet with multiple devices) in which connects to the modem.
The modem and the computer are separate from each other. The modem is what brings Internet into your house, and then an Ethernet cable brings it to your computer or a router. It is not recommended that you shut off the modem.
Modem is a hardware connect your computer with the ISP, then your computer can surf online.
if you are asking will my modem in my computer be detected without having an internet connection. Yes, you computer should auto detect that a modem is present. Now that doesn't mean that windows/linux/Mac will have the drivers you need to be able to use your hardware.
If you mean can you network computer to computer through a phone line, adhock, then if both computers have a dial up modem then yes. It's kind of a pain tho, and not every modem could do it. If you mean connect to another computer via internet over a phone line then yes if it has a dial up modem. DSL does use the phone line for access to the DSL modem.
I want a more colorful modem. My modem is missing. Why can't my computer operate without a modem?
