When there is a problem, they outsource the feeling of pain to other parts of the body, usually as close to the problem as possible. This sensation of pain away from the actual trouble spot is called "Referred pain".
There are a lot of organs down there, and a lot of benign reasons to have sharp pain in that region. Here are a few parts of your abdomen and adjoining areas:
* Lymph nodes (lots!) * Gall bladder (1 on the right) * Liver (1 on the right) * Kidneys (2, one on each side) * Pancreas (1 on the right) * Spleen (1 on the left) * Female reproductive bits (multiple parts in the lower abd.) * Gastrointestinal tract (1 long one in the middle)

Depending on how long you have had the pain, it could be a few different things. Riddle me this:

# Moves downward - daily or more often
# Maybe a fever, maybe not.
# Pain when pushing, or especially when releasing, on the right lower section (called rebound tenderness.)
# No flank or back pain.
