It has lots of oil, but the Niger delta region is very poor, with an unemployment rate of around 90%. Its waterways are highly polluted , and the flaring of gas by forein oil companies causes acid rain so strong it dissolves through corrigated iron in only three years. For a resource- rich country, that's pretty weird. Most organised crime in Africa(and many scams on the internet) are coming from Nigeria, not surprisingly.
