You have worn completely through the brake lining and the grating that you hear is the metal backing against the drum. They are locking up for the same reason and because the calipers are pushed out too far and are locking out. This happens a lot when people drive with their parking brake on over and over till the pads are gone. You have some expensive repair ahead which could have been avoided with an annual brake check, or just noticing when your car is behaving differently and checking it out, it will always give you signs of trouble before it gets as bad as it is now.
no it does not. I have a 99 elantra. It only has the warning sound for leaving the key in and opening the door. I have forgotten my lights on several times because of it.
Having a harsh, rough, grating voice or sound, as when affected with a cold; making a rough, harsh cry or sound; as, the hoarse raven., Harsh; grating; discordant; -- said of any sound.
well that is a warning sighn they do to let you know your brakes are getting down there meaning time to get new ones I dont agree with that if it were the brakes then you would here it when you apply the brakes. If you hear it when you are on the gas then it could be the cv-shaft. If it is then it could cost you around 200 - 350 dollars.
well they make a loud grating sound
My Hyundai Elantra 2008 GLS with 13,800 miles on it had a vibrating rattle especially when idling but also while driving although not always. I bought the car used. After four months of going crazy with the sound we found that it was coming from where the back seat joins the frame. It is not tightly joined there nor is it cushioned. We stuffed some thin cardboard around it to tighten it. That keeps it from vibrating and rattling.
Get your brakes tested. I do not know what a ticking sound means.
The sound is actually called a Pleural rub.
First check trans fluid. If OK then you may have a trans filter that is plugged up. Change your trans fluid and filter. You may have a plugged filter.
