I sounds like the braklight switch is out of position, has failed, or the connector has fallen off. On most cars it is located on a bracket such that when the brake pedal is released it holds the switch open. Get you head down where you can see the brake pedal and how it is fastened and supported. You should see a wire leading to the switch. Could be the brake pedal Stroke sensor. Or maybe a relay. 97's are bad for tailight wire harnesses. Do the taillamps work? Check for power on the brake wire at the taillight connector. If you have power you have a bad connector OR wrong bulbs
The part of the car that turns on the brake lights when you apply pressure to the brake pedal is called the brake switch. Releasing pressure from the pedal causes the brake switch to break its electrical contact, turning off the lights.
it connected to a break lights switch, attached to a break pedal
Since the break lights turn on when the head lights are activated, the problem is probably in the wiring of your break lights. Someone may have accidentally disconnected the wires of your break lights to your head lights.
Break lights come on when you step on the break, they do not come on when the head lights are turned on.
When you step on the brake pedal, you close a switch at the top of the arm that holds the pedal. That puts power to the brake lights
HeyKris==It is probably the switch located on the brake pedal. GoodluckJoe I am having the same problem but shouldn't both the top light and the break lights be activated from the same switch? Is there anything else it could be?
all my lights work except my break lights, when i push on the peddle they dont go on can you help me?
whats the color circuit for the blinkers an break lights?
